The prosthesis types, which we call fixed prostheses, which are applied to people who are not satisfied with the aesthetic appearance of their teeth, both in shape and color, and which increase their living standards, are two types, metal-supported and full-ceramic. Fixed prostheses preferred for aesthetic purposes are usually zirconium and lamina veneers made of full ceramic teeth. Zirconium is a tissue-friendly material with high tensile strength. Since the light transmittance of zirconium teeth is very similar to natural teeth, zirconium prostheses give an appearance close to nature. Zirconium crowns are fixed with special adhesives to the teeth and adhere well to the teeth. It offers a very aesthetic appearance.
While our patients generally know zirconium ceramic teeth due to the popularity of zirconium and its presence in the media, we recommend glass ceramics, also known as Emax, which are more aesthetic than zirconium porcelain teeth. Emax porcelain teeth with light transmittance less than zirconium give a more natural appearance. They are not suitable for use in the form of a bridge, so while they are more suitable for use in the front area, there is no drawback in using it as a single crown in the back areas.
Why should zirconium porcelains be preferred?
- Thanks to the light transmittance properties of zirconium based porcelains, a full harmony with natural teeth can be achieved. In this way, a perfect aesthetic result can be obtained.
- Since there is no metal reflection underneath, the artificial image seen in metal-based porcelain does not occur.
- Gingival harmony is much better than classical metal-based porcelain. Gingival discolorations, which are frequently seen in metal-based porcelain, are absolutely invisible in zirconium.
- It is not allergic because it is a 99% tissue-friendly material. It is more advantageous than metal-supported prostheses in terms of general body health.
- Since its heat insulation feature is very good, they transmit less heat to the tooth than metal-based porcelain. In this way, no hot / cold sensitivity occurs on teeth with zirconium-based porcelain.
- Thanks to their high resistance of 900-1200 megapascals, they can be used safely in the teeth in the back regions. As well as being so strong, they are also elegant and aesthetic enough to transmit light.
- Excellent aesthetic results can be obtained even with very dark teeth as they have the ability to mask the tooth color coming from the bottom.
- A very sensitive. Since they are produced by working, they adapt exactly to the cut tooth surface. In this way, zirconium does not allow decay formation as there is no gap between porcelain and teeth where bacteria can leak.
- They are healthy materials that do not cause taste disorders, gum problems and bad breath.
- Both They can be used safely on both anterior and posterior teeth.
